(January): Lincoln Cottage

I found a Groupon for a visit to Lincoln's cottage in northwest DC.  He apparently lived here as often as he could to escape the White House - during the civil war, area where the White House is would have been crowded with soldiers in addition to the normal city scene, and so this cottage would have been more remote (although now it's only about a 10 minute drive away from the heart of downtown, and not remote at all).  He preferred this cottage to the White House, and wrote most of the Emancipation Proclamation while living here.  It was a good tour, and interesting to learn a bit more about his private life.
