100th Day of School!
Elaina celebrated the 100th day of school on February 1st. This was a BIG DEAL! You really have no idea (I didn't!)
They started getting ready for the big day right after Christmas vacation. Such preparations included:
-the daily countdown at calendar time (each day I got an update on which day of school it was)
-learning songs for the The Big Parade
-making noisemakers for The Big Parade
-making hats for The Big Parade
-learning in math to count by tens, and categorize by tens, all the way to 100
-preparing food for their "100 item snack mix" which included 10 pieces of 10 different types of food, which, quite incredibly, added up to.....100 items of food! Amazing.
-making fruit loop necklaces for The Big Parade, again consisting of 10 groups of 10, totaling....100 fruit loops!!
She had to bring in 100 items to use for math class the week before the 100th day. Here she is with my Mom counting out 100 pennies, and putting them into groups of 10:
On the big day, I woke Elaina up for school (which usually includes me threatening and dragging her out of bed and trying to dress her floppy body as she tries to lay back down on the couch), and she promptly jumped out of bed and announced that it was the 100th day! Wow! BIG DAY!! It might have well have been Christmas - she was that excited!
We arrived at school that afternoon to watch the 100th Day Parade, and discovered that Elaina just happened to be the line leader that day, so she got to hold her class banner and lead the class through the school hallways. It so happened that Mrs. Nelson's class led the parade, so she was excited that she was the leader of the entire parade! She couldn't even contain her excitement as they were getting ready to march around the school:
All 6 Kindergarten classes marched around the school 3 times, shaking their noise makers, and chanting:
Students in all the other grades as well as parents lined the hallways to cheer them on.
Afterward, they went into the cafeteria, where they ate cupcakes to finish the celebration:

It was just as awesome as Elaina anticipated, and even better than I was expecting!

Christmas at our house
I LOVE CHRISTMAS TIME! As a Mom there's something new and special about celebrating it with my own family, and having little kids to celebrate with. I love watching them anticipate and enjoy the family traditions, learning about about Jesus and the Nativity story, unwrapping their gifts, and even better is watching them be so excited about giving gifts. I wear myself each year with baking, decorating, traditions, and other activities. So much effort goes into trying to make it perfect for everyone, and every minute is worth it and wonderful!

Kindergarten Christmas Party
Mrs. Nelson is always so great to let Erin be involved in everything that the kindergarten kids get to do when we go to visit.
Santa came to our church Christmas party!
At the church party, we were told that if we sang loudly enough, a special visitor might hear us and pop in for a visit. Elaina was excited when we started singing "Up on the Housetop" because she had been singing it at school. She belted it out at the top of her lungs, hoping that Santa would find us, and thanks to her, he did! :)
We were singing Christmas songs at the church party when we heard bells and in walked Santa Claus. The look on Erin's face was priceless: mouth open wide, both hands on her cheeks, and a look of shock that Santa had actually come to our very own party! She just sat there, motionless, looking like that, staring at Santa Claus for about a minute.
We went to Elaina's dance recital at Central Park, where all the lights are up around the park
Our tree. I've slowly bought ornaments over the years and add a little more to it each year

Nothing is better than being allowed to eat candy and chocolate first thing in the morning!

I took the kids to the dollar store so that they could buy gifts for our immediate family. Erin is thanking Elaina for the beautiful dress up shoes that she's wearing in this picture :)
This is the beautiful hat that Elaina picked out for me at the dollar store! I LOVE IT!! :)
Excited about the princess barbies she got from Aunt Heather!
The marbleworks from my parents were a huge hit...for the kids and for Mike.
Erin got a game called "Pretty Pretty Princess" where you have to collect all your jewelry and the crown to earn the title of the "pretty pretty princess" and win the game. Doesn't Mike make a beautiful princess?
